Why Christian education?

"Why?"
Parents of young children are used to this question. Answer, and another "Why?" pops up. You may have a "Why" question of your own. "Why should I send my child to a Lutheran school?" One answer to this question is the way in which "Why?" questions are answered in Lutheran schools.

Why am I here? It is not because we are some cosmic accidents, but because God specially made us to be who we are, and loved us enough to send his own Son to die for us. Science lessons raise questions about why animals have the features they do. It is not because they managed to evolve to fit their environment but because God wisely designed them that way.

Social studies raise questions about why there are wars, poverty and other suffering. It is not only because of greed and intolerance. It is because all people are sinful. So, the solution is not just equality and acceptance of all differences, but redemption and new lives in Christ.

Health classes raise quesitons about why we should respect and care for our bodies rather than just doing what feels good. It is because our bodies are temples and tools of God.

Why should children behave in class and obey their teachers and other authorities? It is not just because otherwise they will be punished, but because teachers and parents are God's representatives given to help us. We act as we do because of God's love for us and others.

Why should a child work to excel in school? It is not just to get a good job that makes lots of money. It is because we are stewards of the gifts God has give us to serve others in our world.

The why questions can and will go on. Lutheran schools have good answers for these questions, answers that include the truth of God. Do you have any questions about the why, what , who or how of Christian education for your child? Please do not hesitate to contact us. info@goodshepsschool.org
